About the event: The Pennsylvania Hospice and Palliative Care Network (PHPCN) and Veterans Community Partnership of South Central PA (VCP) serve as WHV Initiative State Leaders and are offering a free 4 part educational series for hospices to better assess and care for Veterans. 

Target Audience: The primary target audience consists of social workers, nurses, and chaplains along with members of the Interdisciplinary teams working with Veterans at the end of life.

Facilitator: Tracey Wheatley is a registered nurse, and has been certified in hospice and palliative care for over twenty-four years. She works as the Director of Home Hospice at Hospice & Community Care in Lancaster, PA, and has over thirty years of experience working in the hospice field. She oversees the daily operations of the hospice teams as well as community education. Tracey has developed and presented a wide variety of educational programs within the Lancaster community as well as on state and national levels. She served two terms on the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Professionals Nurse Steering Committee prior to her election as Nurse Section Leader. She has written several articles that have been published in NHPCO's Insights and NewsLine. She is a member of the ethics committee for her organization and serves on several additional committees within the organization. Tracey is also a member of the Professional Advisory board at one of the Lancaster area hospitals. Tracey is the lead in her organization's WHV program and has achieved Level 4. She co-chairs a Veteran Community Partnership with over 42 members in South Central Pa.


Event Description:  This webinar will define the concept of moral injury (MI) to health care teams and how it affects some Veterans of Vietnam. How to identify symptoms of MI, especially in the last weeks to months of life, will be described, and treatment options, particularly those that are viable in the home setting and used by hospice and other health care professionals, will be discussed. The one-hour presentation is followed by a 30-minute Q&A with subject matter expert Tracey Wheatley, RN, CHPN, Director of Home Hospice, Lancaster, PA.

2. Identify how Moral Injury develops
3. Understand the similarities and differences between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Moral Injury
4. Describe how Moral Injury affects Vietnam Veterans at the end of life
5. Understand how to care for Vietnam Veterans with Moral Injury at the end of life
