Facilitator: Dr. Elizabeth Nosen

Dr. Nosen has been working as a Clinical Psychologist at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center for 9 years and currently serves as the Program Manager for the PTSD Clinical Team. This team provides specialized, evidence-based psychotherapy services to Veterans experiencing symptoms of PTSD in relation to military or other traumatic life experiences.  

Event Description: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects many Veterans of the Vietnam War, and can complicate their quality of life and relationships with families and health care providers. This knowledge-based presentation will define PTSD, it’s causes and symptoms, and how this may manifest at the end of life. A number of treatment options for PTSD specific to those under hospice are will be presented. The similarities and differences between PTSD and other conditions will be discussed. The one-hour presentation is followed by a 30-minute Q&A with subject matter expert Dr. Elizabeth Nosen, Trauma Recovery Program Manager at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center.

1. Identify signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
2. Explain how trauma may impact Veterans at tend of life
3. Discuss treatment options for PTSD specific to end of life
4. Identify the similarities and differences between PTSD and other conditions
5. Discuss how to best care for Vietnam Veterans with PTSD at end of life
